Artist statement
2026I begin a work without knowing exactly where it will lead. I may start with an idea or feeling; but with no accompanying mental image. I make a mark, respond to it, erase, rebuild, and continue listening to what the piece seems to need. I work slowly, allowing the composition to develop through many small decisions. The process is less about executing a plan and more about discovery.
I am drawn to the quiet forces within an image: balance, tension, weight, movement, interruption, and release. A line can feel fragile or determined. An open space can hold as much energy as a dark form.
My Christian faith is woven into the way I see and make, although the work is not intended to illustrate a message or dictate an interpretation. I am interested in mystery, transformation, presence, and the possibility that something unseen may gradually become visible.
I hope the work gives viewers a place to pause, look closely, and bring something of their own experience to what they see.
